Thai Village has been a part of the Freedom Business Alliance as an enterprise existing to provide employment opportunities for survivors of human trafficking and those at-risk. As our focus is on job creation and vocational training among low income communities in an area designated as high risk for human trafficking (Northern Thailand), Thai Village is more on the prevention side of the puzzle of this enormous problem.
Thai Village has committed to the FBA Code of Excellence, which holds businesses in this sector to high standards and guidelines for practices such as supply chain transparency and creating a healing centered workplace that is trauma-informed. We are actively pursuing training and putting structures in place to align with these standards, and this month’s FBA Forum was an opportunity for networking and training in person with others working in their respective sectors towards the same goals.
As part of the Forum, we participated in conversations with other practitioners and FBA members about cultural implications of understanding trauma, case studies of healing centered workplaces, centering survivor voices, governance and supply chain auditing, and using AI to fight human trafficking. Thai Village was invited to share on a panel about trafficking prevention through freedom business jobs and community-centered development. We were honored to be among other businesses represented from this region and to share our experience of seeing meaningful jobs prevent families from desperation in an at-risk community.
